1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Wantagh Public Library is proud to partner with 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.  This program is designed to promote early literacy in babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. The concept is simple. Read a book (any book) to your child. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten.

How Does It Work?

  1. Register at the children’s desk and receive a folder and reading log for the first 100 books. You will also receive a tote bag just for signing up!
  2. Read to your child and color in the box for each book read.
  3. Report with your reading log to the library when you’ve completed 100 books to receive your milestone sticker and next 100 reading log.
  4. Prizes will be awarded after you read 100, 300, 500, and 1,000 books.
  5. Upon completion of the program you will receive a certificate and a T-Shirt to celebrate your achievement. It’s that easy.
